Wooden shoes, also known as clogs,
originated from Europe, especially the Netherlands and Sweden. Many other
countries, especially in Asia, have their own origins of wooden shoes, but they
aren’t as globally popular as Swedish and Dutch clogs. What started out as a
necessity for foot protection has now evolved into a style icon, with women of
all ages going gaga over the colorful and stylish wooden clogs.
However, clogs are not just beauty, even
though that seems to be the main reason they sell like hot cakes worldwide.
Modern clogs such as clog boots, clog sandals and shoes are known to have many
other benefits over regular footwear, such as:
Great Insulator
Wood is a well-known natural insulator than
helps prevent heat from escaping in winter and keeping the surrounding
temperature from rising in the hot summers. Wooden shoes also bring in the same
set of effects; they keep body heat from escaping during chilly winters,
keeping feet warm and cozy. They also prevent outer heat from hitting the feet
in summers, keeping them dry and cool. Waterproof soles can also prevent feet
from getting moist or wet during rainy weather.
Orthopedic Effects
Wooden shoes were recommended by doctors in
the middle ages and later ages when clogs were popular because they are
orthopedically sound shoes; they are rigid, so provide a solid, stable posture
for people wearing them. This helps keep the back straight, resulting in less
back pain as compared to those from wearing regular shoes. Many professionals
who mostly stand or walk around when working such as nurses or restaurant chefs
prefer clogs because of this.
Highly Durable and Strong
Wood is a strong material that can bear rough
usage, and so can shoes made of wood. Wooden clog shoes are highly durable and
can take a beating throughout the years. This means any clogs you buy will last
you for years and not break down like other shoes. They also protect the feet
because they are strong; if you trip, clogs with wooden bases are more likely to
protect them from injury than regular footwear.
Clogs are Usually All-Weather
You cannot roam around in rainy season in
your regular shoes unless they are rubber boots or something similar that is
made for the rainy season. Soles can get damaged if they are exposed to water
for too long. Not in case of clogs; wooden bases in clogs are treated properly
with a water-resistant coating that enhances their waterproofing ability, making
them perfect for use in rainy weather, provided the upper material is also
waterproof or water-resistant. Not all clog sellers have waterproofing done to
their shoes, so do check with the seller and manufacturer before buying.
